Author, Editor & Publisher
Michelle Baltazar is an author, editor and publisher with a career spanning finance, media, and multicultural affairs. She is the Head of Media & Publisher of Financial Standard, one of Australia's leading industry publications for fund managers, financial planners and wealth professionals.
Her work at Financial Standard has established her as a respected voice in the Australian financial media landscape — a space where rigour, accuracy and editorial independence are non-negotiable. She brings those same standards to everything she does.
A Passion for the Filipino-Australian Community
Outside her professional career, Michelle pursues a deep personal interest in writing about the Filipino-Australian community through the Australian Filipina Lifestyle and Business Magazine. For Michelle, the magazine is not a side project — it is a calling.
She recognised early that the Filipino-Australian community — one of the most vibrant, ambitious and culturally rich communities in the country — deserved a publication that truly reflected its experience. Australian Filipina became that publication: a platform for stories that celebrate achievement, explore identity, and connect Filipinos across Australia.
Radio Sandigan & Community Voice
Michelle is also a volunteer radio host for Radio Sandigan, a weekly Filipino station broadcast by Radio 2RDJ (www.radio2rdj.com) every Friday from 9am to 10am. The programme gives her a direct, personal connection to the community she serves — a chance to speak, listen, and engage beyond the written word.
Her presence on air reflects a broader commitment: that community media should be participatory, not just observational. She shows up, week after week, because she believes in the power of a shared voice.
Bridging Two Worlds
What makes Michelle's work distinctive is her ability to move fluently between two very different worlds — the high-stakes world of Australian financial media and the warm, community-driven world of Filipino-Australian storytelling. In both, she brings the same qualities: precision, empathy, and an unwavering commitment to the people she serves.
She believes that multicultural media is not a niche — it is the future of Australian journalism. And through Australian Filipina, she is helping to build that future, one story at a time.
The Principles That Guide Every Story We Tell
These are the convictions that have never changed — the editorial north star that guides every decision Michelle makes, from the stories she chooses to the words used to tell them.
Community Before Clicks
Every story is chosen because it genuinely matters to the Filipino-Australian community — not because it will generate traffic. We do not chase viral moments or sensational headlines.
Accuracy Above All
We verify before we publish. In an era of misinformation, our readers trust us to get it right. That trust is the most valuable thing we have, and we protect it fiercely.
Authentic Representation
Filipino-Australian stories should be told by Filipino-Australian voices. We actively seek out and develop writers from within the community, not outside observers looking in.
Editorial Independence
Our editorial decisions are made free from commercial or political pressure. Advertisers support the magazine financially; they do not influence what we cover or how we cover it.
Depth Over Volume
We would rather publish one well-crafted, thoroughly reported story than ten shallow ones. Quality is not negotiable — it is the standard we hold ourselves to every single day.
Celebrating Achievement
The Filipino-Australian community is full of extraordinary people doing extraordinary things. Our job is to find them, tell their stories, and make sure the community knows they exist.
